On a beautiful Autumn day to showcase the magnificent work that has been going on at the Peninsula Kingswood Country Golf Club.

It was a pleasure for the team to finally play golf at home and not have to travel over the other side of town.

The news of the Colts having a very good win 4/1 inspired the team and having a home course knowledge really helped with steady golf played by all the team.

The men’s team vs Sanctuary Lakes had the best win for the season with all players winning 7/0.

Will Gordon played his best golf for the year winning 5/4.

Andrew Abbott at home on very good greens showed how to master the course winning 4/2.

Sam Bastion with Gavin back on the bag showed how to play down the middle all day and had a good win 2/1.

Adam Temby who has been the most consistent player all season finally won on the 19th hole again.

Harry Smiles showed why he is the Club Champion with a solid golf game all day against a Pro golfer winning on the 20th hole.

Bailey Watson with Brody on his bag for the first time this season was 5 up with 6 to play and although hitting a small hurdle finally won 3/2.

Lawrence Curtis showed why he is our number 1 player having a very comfortable win 6/4 with 4 birdies around the long and tight North course.

Thanks to Rob Dowling, Stephen O’Bryan and all the caddies this season for helping out with an up and down year that could have gone the other way if we had all the players available for most of the matches.

The team finished 7th on the ladder and next year will be relegated to Division 3.

The Colts are in the Finals vs Huntingdale at Victoria Golf club on the 28th April on the 1st Tee at 8.00am, so please come along and show the team some support.

Round 7 Team

Colts- Tee off 7.45 am (1st tee)

            Matt McCole

            Jacob Taberner

            Rory Gorman

            Tom Cattogio

           Jack Smith

          Emergency: Aiden McDonagh

Sunday dawned a clear day for the PK Colts all important match against Heidelberg at PK to determine if we would move up to Division 1 and go into the finals.

Jack Smith started at position 5 and found himself 2 down through 5 against a solid opponent. He managed to grab one back at the 6th and gain some momentum, winning 8, 9 and 10. After a dropped shot at 13, he stayed 1 up through 16 before a well played 9 iron from 145 meters to 2 feet on the 17th netted him a birdie and a 2 & 1 win.

Jacob Taberner had an uncharacteristically poor start, losing a ball on 3 and finding himself 4 down through 6 holes. He battled on but eventually succumbed on the 13th for a 6 & 5 loss.  Rory Gorman again jumped out of the blocks quickly, being 2 up after 3 holes. After a couple of scrappy holes, he just kept applying the pressure to his opponent with some very solid iron play. He closed his match out on the 14th for a 5 & 4 win.

Tom Cattogio at 1 was never troubled by an opponent who was clearly struggling with the PK hard and fast conditions. His frustration with himself was only made worse by Tom’s relentlessly steady play all day. He went down 5 & 3 on the 15th after a solid approach shot from Tom. With the win now in the bag with 3 matches in, Matt McCole (aka The Postman) continued his normal form of having no respect for the Team Manager’s nerves and was 4 down after 6 holes against a very solid performer. But as per usual, he slowly wore his player down, finally getting to dormie 2 after the 16th. After 2 lost balls from wayward drives on the 17th, he walked straight to the 18th tee 1 up. After a strong drive into the corner bunkers, he smoothed a short iron onto the upper level of the green and 2 putted for a 2 up win and a 4 & 1 win for the team.

Having guaranteed the move up to Division 1 next year, we now have to focus our attention on the Final at Victoria Golf Club against Huntingdale on 28th April.

Congratulations to all of the Colts for their great work this year and let’s now try to bring home the flag.
